Barrage is best used with a 5/1 vampric shortbow imo due to it not working with preparations extra 5 damage and health from every arrow, good when your doing low level farming.

you can also use enchantments with barrage. So you could use Judges Insight, or Strength of Honor, or Conjure (Element)... for added dmg..

I use barrage with a Zealous bow, for more energy for other attacks.

Fire works well with kindle arrows. Otherwise it really doesn't matter.

Judge's Insight blows my energy management out the window.

Also, if you use conjure, you can't use a bowstring, so no 5/-1 vamp or 1/-1 zealous.

You can if you use kindle arrows and conjure flame.
I know that the kindle arrows says an 'additional' fire __ damage but there is some bug that makes conjure flame go into affect.

If you don't use kindle arrows Kaospryx is right.

after looking at skills and stuff, i got another idea. can you guys comment on it? since im using a 5/1 vamp, which means no fiery string, i was thinkin about using necro secondary. im pretty sure arrows count as physical damage, right? so that means if i use mark of pain, all adjacent foes take damage. and if i use barrage with that, every gets hit with mark of pain multiple times? and im pretty sure mark of pain doesnt count as a preparatgion.

feedback appreciated ^^

You're right, Mark of Pain counts as a hex, not a preparation. However, Barrage will only trigger the Mark once, unless you've marked several enemies. Barrage fires one arrow per target, so it will only trigger with each shot. If you fired a Dual Shot, it might trigger Mark twice.

A nice hex from the necro line to use might be Weaken Armor for single target damage. My opinion, for a Barrage-er, is that a self-enchantment is the best way to go, like Conjure or Judge's Insight, as it will add its buff to all the arrows you fire when you Barrage at a clump of enemies, instead of hexes, which usually only affect one target. Mark of Pain is a nice idea, but I think that its best used with a quick-firing build like a Quick Shot or interrupt-chain build so that you can trigger Mark as many times as you can in a short period.

You can't use Kindle + Conjure with Barrage, because Barrage will remove Kindle.

^ Got to it first.

How can you prefer Kindle+Conjure in barrage build.

Also...Energy management on a Bow Ranger? Add a Zealous string if you need energy..you hit upto 6 energy for a barrage hit.

The real problem with JI is the downtime - even with a decent Enchanting grip it won't last more than about 15-20 secs before you have to recast.
